Photos: Rockefeller Center Christmas lights turned on (with help from the Muppets)

The lights on the 80-feet tree at Rockefeller Plaza were switched on last night in front of thousands of onlookers.

ONE OF THE best things about Christmas – aside from the presents, obviously – is seeing random landmarks lit up and looking all pretty.

Last night it was New York City’s turn. The lights on the gigantic tree at Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan were switched on, with Cee-Lo Green, Mariah Carey, Rod Stewart and the Muppets all doing the honours at the 80th annual tree lighting ceremony in mid-Manhattan.
