Major coup for Dundalk as Finn signs from Shamrock Rovers

The 26-year-old joins on a two-year deal.

DUNDALK HAVE ADDED Ronan Finn to their ranks.

The Lilywhites, who won the 2014 SSE Airtricity League Premier Division, announced the Shamrock Rovers attacking midfielder as their fifth signing this morning.

The former UCD captain has established himself as one of the LOI’s best players in recent years — winning the Premier Division title and Setanta Cup and featuring in the Europa League group stages.

Arriving on a two-year deal, the 26-year-old says he is delighted with the move and added that the chance to link up with manager Stephen Kenny again was a big factor.

“I’m very happy to get it done finally,”  Finn said. “It was never in doubt really. It was going to happen but with holidays and work it just didn’t. It’s great to get it done and before Christmas as well is a plus. I can’t wait to get started and I am really happy to be at Dundalk.

“Stephen was the main reason I wanted to come here. I have a great relationship with him. I played really well for him before and I just want to get back to that again. He’s a really good person and he’s a great manager.

“It’s all positive and I am very excited about the year ahead now. Signing for the best club in the country is great and it’s a very exciting time for the fans and the town so hopefully we can push on and do well next year.”

Finn is likely to replace Richie Towell, who is expected to move to England in the coming weeks.
