Roscommon and Galway will contest the FBD League final for the second successive year after today’s last round of group stage games in the Connacht pre-season competition.

The result marked a first defeat for new Mayo boss Stephen Rochford in a game where they trailed by 0-6 to 0-4 at the interval.

Roscommon, under the guidance of Kevin McStay, had started brightly and they held onto their advantage in the second-half to triumph. Ciaran Murtagh and Cathal Cregg shared 0-7 between them for the winners while Conor Loftus kicked 0-5 for a beaten Mayo side.

Galway ensured their place in the final with a third successive win in the group stages as they saw off the students of GMIT by 0-16 to 1-5.

Eddie Hoare was the chief scoretaker for Galway with 0-6 while Martin Shaughnessy struck the only goal of the game when he netted for GMIT.

There were also wins for NUI Galway and Leitrim in today’s clashes.
