Keane and O'Neill 'going nowhere', despite Stan Collymore's call for Nottingham Forest return

The Talksport pundit reckons O’Neill and Keane are perfect for the City Ground job.

ROY KEANE HAS dismissed the suggestion from former Premier League striker turned pundit Stan Collymore that Ireland’s management ticket should take the reins at Nottingham Forest.

Billy Davies vacated the City Ground hotseat this week, prompting the former Forest forward to insist on his Talksport show that the Championship sid make the FAI an offer for Martin O’Neill and his assistant Keane.

“No, there’ll always be speculation,” Keane said in Cork last night. “I was linked with a job a few months ago and I’ve had opportunities to go abroad but me and Martin have been in the door two minutes with the senior team and we’re enjoying it.

“There’s a big, big challenge ahead, even the Serbia match was a learning curve for us in terms of preparation and boundaries with people and even the media and the FAI.

“Sometimes with this speculation you’d take it as a compliment. Forest are a top club but my intentions are to continue working with Martin and the senior team and try and qualify. I don’t tend to get distracted by media stuff.”

Keane, who was speaking at the launch of Cork City FC’s Patron Scheme at University College Cork added: ”The contract is obviously a couple of years and I’m delighted to work with Martin, Seamus [McDonagh] and the other staff. I never said for one minute that I wasn’t looking to go and do my own thing.”

Asked if by host Tony O’Donoghue if he’d like to get back to Man Utd at some stage he said: “It’s a silly question, really. You have to earn your right. I’ve made massive mistakes particularly at Ipswich, I think I did okay at Sunderland. Bit I’m still learning and I think I’m learning under a top, top manager in Martin. I’m enjoying it but it’s dangerous to look too far ahead.”
