Roy Keane warns Wayne Rooney to 'keep his nose out of' England manager debate

“He didn’t do enough on the pitch when Capello was manager,” the former Ireland skipper said last night.

FORMER IRELAND SKIPPER Roy Keane was back in the north-east of England last night as he watched former club Sunderland overcome neighbours Middlesbrough in their FA Cup fourth-round replay.

And the Corkman had some words of advice for another old friend after he watched the game from ITV’s stadium studio.

Former Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney should ”keep his nose out” of debate over the identity of the new England manager, Keane said.

Rooney made his preference for Harry Redknapp clear last night through Twitter.

“Wayne should keep his nose out of it,” Keane said. “I don’t think he done enough on the pitch when Capello was manager with some of his own behaviour.”

Keane also expressed his admiration for the way Capello “stuck to his guns” after criticising the FA for removing John Terry from the national team captaincy without consulting him.
