Sacking McCarthy was 'probably the wrong decision' - Hunt

The Wolves midfielder also admitted that he was surprised when Terry Connor was chosen as the club’s new manager.

WOLVES MIDFIELDER STEPHEN Hunt has criticised the club’s decision to sack former manager Mick McCarthy earlier in the season.

The club currently lie bottom of the table and look set to be relegated, as they’re five points behind closest rivals Blackburn.

And speaking on RTÉ’s Premier Soccer Saturday, Hunt suggested that the decision was unwise on reflection:

“We were all playing for the manager so first of all, it was disappointing for the gaffer. In terms of results, the board thought it was time for a change.

“Little did we know we would end up losing a lot of games since we’ve sacked him so it has probably proved to be the wrong decision in the end.”

And in relation to McCarthy’s replacement, Terry Connor, Hunt said:

“I didn’t think he would get the job initially. Neither did he to be honest with you.”

Hunt, who McCarthy signed for £3 million from Hull in June 2010, added that he believed the ex-Ireland manager would return to management with a big club soon.
