ONE OF THE long-running transfer sagas of the summer was ended today, but not the way Saido Berahino wanted.
The West Brom striker had long been tipped to move to Tottenham Hotspur during the transfer window, but he will be a West Brom player until January at least, after Spurs had two bids for the striker turned down on deadline day.
In a statement to the club’s website, West Brom Chairman Jeremy Peace said that the club were not in a position to sell the 22-year-old so close to the deadline.
“We have a key player who has been very unsettled by antics which were designed to get him out of our club cheaply.
“Those tactics have continued despite my making our position clear in my first conversation with Daniel Levy on this subject in mid-August.
“I said selling Saido so late in the window was not on our agenda,” he said.
However, the West Brom striker has hinted that he now going to refuse to play for the club, after tweeting about his unhappiness this evening.
Berahino hasn’t featured in the club’s last two games, after manager Tony Pulis claimed the speculation had been too disruptive to select him.
