There's a group of people plotting a sensational overthrow of their own county board

The Saffron Vision group has outlined a vision for change in Antrim.

THE FORTHCOMING ANTRIM county board convention is well worth keeping an eye on.

A group named ‘Saffron Vision’ has confirmed that it is putting forward eight nominees for key positions at the annual think-tank, as they go up against the current powerbrokers.

In what would be a sensational coup, Colin Donnelly is seeking the position of chairman, with Malachy Delargy campaiging for the vice-chairman role.

Other Saffron Vision members are seeking the assistant secretary, Treasurer, PRO, Ulster delegate, Central Council delegate and Cultural Officer roles in Antrim GAA.

Saffron Vision have put together a blueprint for change, entitled ‘A new future for GAA in Antrim’.

A statement confirms that they have come together as ‘a group of Antrim Gaels from North Antrim, South-West Antrim, and South Antrim because we believe that the current Antrim GAA does not reflect our true potential and we want to change it for the better.’

They acknowledge the time and commitment given by current Antrim GAA board officials but insist that ‘a new county board is required to effect the change necessary to lift Antrim GAA to a new level.’

The Saffron Vision group claims that ‘the current structures operating within Antrim GAA are not serving the county well and we want to change that.’

The statement adds: “We know that won’t happen overnight, but at the same time we know it won’t happen at all unless we collectively adopt a new approach.

“The time has come to change Antrim GAA, to put structures in place which will help ensure that we are as successful as we can be, and our ambition knows no limits.

“Frustration has been aired by Antrim followers, members and clubs in recent years, along with general call for change.

“We are engaging in the democratic structures of our organisation to bring about that change.”

Saffron Vision has urged “all clubs and Gaels” to support them.
