70 schools are getting €450 million for construction projects in 2015

Sixteen projects have been added to list.

OVER €450 MILLION will be spent next year on 70 new schools building projects next year.

The spending is part of a €2.2 billion five-year capital investment programme launched in March 2012, which gave details of 275 new major school building projects to begin over the period 2012-2016.

In 2013, details of a further 28 major school projects were announced that were approved to proceed to tender and construction.

Today, another 16 projects, seven new schools and nine extensions were added to that list.

Some €450 million will be spent on primary and post-primary infrastructure next year, with a projected expenditure on large scale projects of over €280 million.

The 70 projects scheduled to break in 2015 are:

  • 44 new primary schools
  • 11 extensions to primary schools
  • 5 new secondary schools
  • 8 extensions to secondary schools
  • 2 new special schools

The school projects will deliver over 27,800 permanent school places, with 3,700 places being added to the school system.

Over 40 projects were completed in 2014.

The full list of school projects can be found here.
