Neck surgery rules Connacht hooker Henry out for rest of season

The Sligo man will hopefully be fully recovered in time for pre-season training.

CONNACHT WILL BE without hooker Sean Henry for the remainder of the season, the province confirmed today.

The Sligo man has not played since the Heineken Cup defeat to Saracens in January and after weeks struggling to return from the neck injury it has been decided that he will undergo surgery.

The former Munster hooker has played 14 times since moving to Galway last summer and was part of the starting front row that secured a famous victory in Toulouse in December.

Today’s statement from the province says that the timing of the operation will allow the 26-year-old a clean run into pre-season training ahead of Pat Lam’s second year in charge.

Elsewhere in the team, scrum-half Paul O’Donohoe will again be unavailable for this weekend’s visit of Treviso after sustaining a back injury in the warm-up before the bonus point win over Zebre.

On the positive side of the ledger, Nathan White and Eoin McKeon have regained full fitness and are in contention as the western province chase a third consecutive Pro12 win after seeing off Edinburgh and Zebre.
