Seán Sherlock: 'Tell me a politician that doesn’t want to be a Cabinet minister'

The Labour TD is tipped for Cabinet and is open to the possibility of it.

JUNIOR MINISTER SEÁN Sherlock has admitted an interest in becoming a Cabinet minister in the future, but has said that he is happy in his current role, describing it as “the best job in government”.

“Tell me a politician that doesn’t want to be a Cabinet minister,” Sherlock told TheJournal.ie in an interview this week.

The Labour TD for Cork East does not believe that his chances of reaching Cabinet have been damaged by his handling of the so-called SOPA Ireland controversy and the criticism he received over it.

“I didn’t take any criticism from my party colleagues,” he said.

Sherlock said that he does not give the prospect of becoming a senior minister “much thought” and said that he is happy in his current role.

He continued: “I am happy to be doing what I am, I really am. I have the best job in government.”

On the fortunes of the Labour Party, Sherlock said that despite recent positive developments for the junior coalition partner there is a long way to go:
