Sebastian Vettel stretches F1 lead as he reigns in Spain

The Red Bull driver led from start to finish at the European Grand Prix.

SEBASTIAN VETTEL PICKED up his sixth win of the Formula 1 season for Red Bull at the European Grand Prix in Spain, stretching his championship lead further.

Vettel’s victory gives him a 77-point lead in the championship. With just eight races gone that is already an advantage of more than three clear race wins.

Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso won a tight battle with Vettel’s Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber for second which earned the Spaniard his first podium at the Valencia track.

Meanwhile, McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton held off Felipe Massa’s fast-finishing Ferrari to take fourth.

Vettel’s dominance was underlined by the fact that he left from start to finish in the race.

His closest challengers in the F1 championship are Jenson Button, who finished sixth for McLaren, and Webber. Both of them are tied on 109 points, well behind the German driver.
