TENNIS STAR SERENA Williams is determined to defend her Wimbledon title this summer despite undergoing emergency treatment for a blood clot in Los Angeles earlier this week.
The 29-year-old has said the last few days have been “extremely hard, scary, and disappointing”, according to Press Association, after it was revealed she had received treatment on Monday for a haematoma suffered as a result of a pulmonary embolism, or blood clot.
Williams said she hoped to be back this summer raising the possibility that she could return to defend the Wimbledon championship she won last summer.
She has not played since then because of injuries including cutting her foot on a broken beer bottle in a Munich restaurant shortly after she won the Wimbledon title.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Williams is now recuperating at home and that the clotting around her foot as a result of the cut may have contributed to the embolism.
Before this latest health scare, she had told the New York Post that she hoped to be back for the French Open in May.
