Djokovic dances to Serena's tune at champions' dinner

The Serb wanted a sophisticated dance, but was forced to compromise.

SERENA WILLIAMS DENIED Novak Djokovic’s request for a waltz in their dance at the Wimbledon champions’ dinner, the men’s singles winner has admitted.

After capturing his second successive Wimbledon title with a four-set victory over Roger Federer on Sunday, Djokovic spoke of his desire to hit the dance floor with Serena, who claimed the ladies’ title by beating Garbine Muguruza on Saturday.

His wish was fulfilled as the pair danced to ‘Night Fever’ by the Bee Gees, although that was not the song Djokovic had originally hoped for.

“I suggested the idea [of a dance] to [All England Club chairman] Phillip Brook and to Serena, and they accepted it, fortunately.

“[Coach] Boris [Becker] told me he had a dance with [Martina] Navratilova when he won in ’85. I was very pleased, Serena is a great dancer.

“I was thinking more of a waltz, [something] more sophisticated that blends in with the environment.

“But Serena wanted to move a little bit more, so then we considered other options and Night Fever came to life so it was Night Fever and you can imagine how that looked.”
