Sewer work will not delay children's hospital project

The development board for the hospital said the project is on target and transition of services will start before the end of 2018.

THE DEVELOPMENT BOARD for the new children’s hospital in Dublin has said the project is on target and there will be no delay arising from issues associated with work on a sewer which serves the Drimnagh area.

It had been reported that the hospital would face delays because the sewer runs under the site and that this could cost up to €18 million. However the board this evening released a statement, saying that rerouting the sewer, which consists of 60cm pipes, is not envisaged as part of the project.

“Site appraisals prepared for the board confirm the 12 acre site provided at St James’s Hospital will comfortably accommodate the proposed development including future expansion and in accordance with Dublin City Council’s Development Control Plan,” it said.

The board confirmed that the transition of services to the new children’s hospital, including research and education facilities, is on target to commence before the end of 2018.
