Shamrock Rovers bow out of Europe as Irish interest ends for another year

A disappointing week for the League of Ireland sides continued.

Odds BK 2 (4)

Shamrock Rovers 1 (1)

SHAMROCK ROVERS WERE unable to produce a comeback to keep their Europa League hopes alive for another year as the damage done in last week’s first-leg proved irreparable.

For large chunks of the game in Norway, Pat Fenlon’s side chipped away at their opposition in search of a route back into the game but were unable to find the spark to ignite a fightback.

And Odds ended any hopes Rovers had of pulling off an unlikely rescue act when Ole Joergen Halvorsen and Steffen Hagen put the tie beyond all doubt with goals in the final quarter.

Gavin Brennan added a consolation for the SSE Airtricity League outfit in the dying embers but it will be of scant reward as the Irish interest in Europe ends for another year.

Odds BK: Rossbach, Ruud, Jonassen, Hagen, Eriksen, Gashi, Berg, Nordkvelle, Halvorsen, Zekhnini, Akabueze.

Shamrock Rovers: Hyland, Byrne, Kenna, Webster, Madden, R Brennan, G Brennan, Cregg, Miele, McCabe, Drennan.

UCD’s European adventure comes to an end with heavy defeat
