Flight diverted to Shannon Airport after woman goes into labour

The woman has been taken to the University Maternity Hospital in Limerick.

A DELTA AIRLINES flight from Amsterdam to Atlanta was forced to make an unscheduled stop at Shannon Airport today after a woman went into labour.

The plane landed at around 1.50pm and is expected to resume its journey soon.

The woman was in what one passenger described as “heavy labour” and was expected to give birth before the plane landed. However, that didn’t happen and the woman has been transferred to the University Maternity Hospital in Limerick.

A spokesperson for the airport confirmed that a Delta flight had made an unscheduled landing and would be carrying on to America, but could not say why.

A Delta spokesperson had not responded to a request for comment.
