SHAY GIVEN’S HOPES of being named in the Aston Villa team for Saturday’s FA Cup final received a welcome boost today as he returned to training.

The 39-year-old began the season as second choice goalkeeper behind Brad Guzan but used their FA Cup run to re-establish himself as number one and played three Premier League games on the trot before picking up a groin injury days after the embarrassing 6-1 defeat to Southampton a fortnight ago.

Villa boss Tim Sherwood revealed that the Ireland stopper was fit enough to participate this morning, and he must decide who gets the nod against Arsenal at Wembley.

He trained today so we’re hopeful he’ll be alright, Sherwood said. “But the nature of this club is you can’t hold your breath. We’re training tomorrow so we’re likely to lose two or three!

“I’ve not yet made my decision on the keeper,” he added. “Come back tomorrow and I’ll tell you then.”
