IKEA wants people to stop falling asleep in its stores

Feel free to buy a bed there and then sleep in it at home though.

NOT CONTENT WITH getting people to stop playing hide-and-seek in its stores, IKEA now wants customers to stop sleeping in them too.

Yes, this is a thing that people do – in China anyway.

Last summer IKEA spokesman Josefin Thorell told the Wall Street Journal people napping in its Chinese stores wasn’t a problem, describing it as a “spontaneous phenomenon”.

However, the Shanghaiist website has said the store is no longer taking a laid-back approach to the issue, and has banned napping.

Workers from the store said that sleepers had become too much of a nuisance and got in the way of customers.

Last month, the store asked people to stop playing hide-and-seek in its shops, after tens of thousands of people signed up on Facebook to play the game in various stores all over the world.

At the time, an Ikea spokesperson told TheJournal.ie: “While we appreciate playing hide and seek in one of our stores may be appealing to some, offering a fun, relaxed and safe shopping experience for our customers is our highest priority. We would not facilitate this kind of activity taking place in any of our stores.”

TODAY reports that there’s no word on whether sleeping will be banned in stores in other locations.

Have you ever fallen asleep in the Ballymun shop? It is quite big to walk around.
