The Irish Women’s rugby team gained an impressive 15-10 victory over France at Ashbourne RFC this evening.
The result means they can now win the Grand Slam provided they beat Italy in Milan next week.
It’s only the second time the Irish women have ever beaten France, having also defeated them back in 2009.
They got off to a shaky start, with a penalty from Sandrine Agricole giving the visitors the lead.
Joy Neville then released Niamh Briggs for the game’s opening try, before a converted Gaëlle Mignot try gave France the advantage going in at half-time.
Ailis Egan hit back for Ireland in the second half with a try after a spell of intensive pressure, with Briggs converting thereafter.
Briggs added another penalty, with Ireland surviving a few late scares to hang on for an invaluable win.
