WATCH: Atlantis separates from space station for the last time

The shuttle will land back on earth this Thursday, having completed its duties at the ISS.

THE SPACE SHUTTLE Atlantis has completed its duties at the International Space Station and has separated from it for the last time.

This is the last-ever space shuttle flight and left the Kennedy Space Centre on Friday 8 July.

The four STS-135 crew members are Commander Chris Ferguson, Pilot Doug Hurley and Mission Specialists Sandy Magnus and Rex Walheim.

During the past week they have transferred 9,400 pounds of equipment and supplies onto the ISS.

Today’s wakeup call for the crew was Don’t Panic by Coldplay – previous wake-up songs included Celebration by Kool & the Gang and Days Go By by Keith Urban.

The shuttle is to land at Kennedy Space Centre early Thursday morning.
