Ballymun book Dublin quarter-final spot with 40-point hammering of St Mary's

St Brigid’s were three point victors over Thomas Davis.

AS EXPECTED, ST Brigid’s and Ballymun booked their places in the Dublin SFC quarter-finals today.

St Brigid’s, who last won the title in 2011, had three points to spare over Thomas Davis, while Ballymun hammered St Mary’s by 40 points.

Losing sides St Mary’s and Thomas Davis, who had former Galway hurling boss Anthony Cunningham as part of their backroom team, won’t play championship football again until 2018.

Ciaran Farrelly bagged a first-half goal for Thomas Davis, but St Brigid’s recovered to lead by 0-8 to 1-3 at half-time.

Laois midfielder John O’Loughlin scored 0-3 for the winners, while Dublin’s Paddy Andrews added a brace including a fine curling effort in the second period.

Ballymun enjoyed a far more straightforward affair, comfortably accounting for St Mary’s on a scoreline of 8-18 to 0-2.

Ballymun roared into the game and led by 4-5 to no score after 25 minutes, and were ahead by 20 points at half-time. That advantage was doubled after the second period.
