Stephen Ward transfer listed on the first day of Wolves' pre-season

The Republic of Ireland defender met new boss Kenny Jackett this morning.

STEPHEN WARD’S DAYS at Wolves look to be over.

New manager Kenny Jackett met the Republic of Ireland defender this morning and informed him that he has been transfer listed.

Ward, 27, was one of four players deemed surplus to requirements as Jackett began a squad clearout on the first day of pre-season training.

Karl Henry, Jamie O’Hara and Roger Johnson are the other players who have been told that they can move on before relegated Wolves begin the new season in League One.

“Conversations had already taken place with the players’ agents throughout the close season,” a statement from the club said.

Ward was signed for Wolves in 2007 by Mick McCarthy who paid what was then a record League of Ireland fee to snap up the Dubliner from Bohemians. He made 41 appearances last season but couldn’t prevent the Midlands club’s slump and relegation from the Championship.
