I'm going over to win more medals' - Watch Gerrard's first LA Galaxy interview

The Liverpool captain discusses the reasons behind moving to the MLS.

AFTER DAYS OF speculation, LA Galaxy have officially confirmed that Steven Gerrard will join the MLS club in the summer.

Following in the footsteps of another former England captain David Beckham and Ireland skipper and ex-Liverpool team-mate Robbie Keane, the 34-year-old arrives at the MLS Cup champions after 17 senior seasons with the Reds — where he made 696 appearances and scored 182 goals.

Speaking in his first official interview, Gerrard, who won the Champions League, UEFA Cup, FA Cup (2), and League Cup (3) with Liverpool, said his main aim is to help the Californian outfit secure more silverware.

“I’m very excited to begin the next chapter of my career in the United States with LA Galaxy,” said Gerrard. “The Galaxy are the most successful club in Major League Soccer history and I am looking forward to competing for more championships in the years to come.

“My discussions with (manager) Bruce Arena and (president) Chris Klein were extremely positive and the future of the team is very bright.

I am committed to helping the LA Galaxy compete for trophies and to having an impact in Los Angeles and I will give my all for the club.

“In the meantime, I will continue to give everything for Liverpool for the remainder of this season before joining up with the Galaxy.”
