Steven Gerrard offered new contract by Liverpool - Brendan Rodgers

The veteran star’s current deal expires at the end of the current season.

VETERAN MIDFIELDER STEVEN Gerrard has been offered a new contract by Liverpool, according to the club’s manager Brendan Rodgers.

Gerrard has come under criticism for his performances this season, and was dropped ahead of Saturday’s clash with Stoke, leading some to speculate that his days at the Anfield club could be numbered.

The star’s current deal expires at the end of the season, but Rodgers says he has been offered a chance to extend his stay with the side beyond this campaign.

“Firstly in terms of the club the latest is that Steven Gerrard and his representatives have been offered a contract here and at this moment in time that’s where it’s at,” he told reporters.

“Steven… is a man who deserves utmost respect and time to consider [the decision]. It’s not just a big move in his life in terms of commitment but he needs time and respect to look at that.

“It certainly won’t be money. I’ve spoken to him enough times at length and that won’t be the case. Between now and the end of the season he deserves the opportunity to think.”
