Bony Brace

Two goals from Wilfried Bony helps Swansea to win over Leicester

The win moves Swansea up to sixth in the league.

IVORY COAST STRIKER Wilfried Bony bagged a brace as Swansea cruised to a 2-0 victory over Leicester this evening.

Bony put Garry Monk’s team ahead late in the first half at the Liberty Stadium and he struck again soon after the interval to lift the Swans up to sixth in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old has now scored four times in his last three appearances after failing to find the net in his first seven games this season.

Bony’s goals ended Swansea’s barren run of five league matches without a victory and left Leicester, without a win in four matches since their famous triumph against Manchester United, hovering just above the relegation zone.

His second strike also made him the joint highest Swansea scorer in Premier League history, equalling Michu’s 20-goal total.

Poor marking from a corner allowed Bony an early sight of goal but the Ivorian headed wide and then his 18-yard shot from Gylfi Sigurdsson’s square pass was comfortably held by Kasper Schmeichel in the Leicester goal.

Leicester were struggling to cope with the hosts’ movement and they fell behind after being cut open in the 34th minute.

Angel Rangel’s pass found Bony and his flick freed Sigurdsson, who shaped to shoot but instead cut the ball back to Bony and the striker finished with aplomb from 20 yards.

Leicester needed to show some intent and they struck the crossbar within two minutes of the restart in bizarre circumstances when Liam Moore hurled his throw deep into the Swansea area.

Jonjo Shelvey swung a leg at it but it was unclear whether the midfielder made any contact with it or the ball simply spun off the turf to hit the top of the Swansea crossbar.

Monk’s men wrapped up the points in the 57th minute when Jefferson Montero and Sigurdsson interchanged cleverly for the winger to breach the Foxes’ back-line, draw Schmeichel, and leave Bony with a simple finish.

Sigurdsson limped off straight away to be replaced by Tom Carroll, but Shelvey nearly got a third for Swansea when his 30-yard shot cannoned off the bar.

With two minutes to go Esteban Cambiasso should have pulled one back for the visitors but he missed this opener.
