THE SWANSEA CITY squad have come up with a unique twist to the crossbar challenge.
The competition sees the players attempt to hit the crossbar from the 18-yard line but the catch is that there’s a forfeit with a difference involved.
The player who loses must drive a Suzuki jeep, nicknamed the ‘Pink Ferrari’ for a week.
Physio Richard Buchanan explains: “The idea came following some of the boys’ comments of the cars they saw out in Russia. Some of the players hadn’t seen Ladas and Trabants before, let alone driven them.
So I thought considering the number of expensive cars in our car park was getting a bit too much, so we thought we would bring them back down to earth a bit and get an unfortunate player – as they would see it – to drive something a bit more interesting.
“We had a collection among the boys, and I ended buying what we call the Pink Ferrari for a few hundred quid.”
According to the rules, the player must:
- Drive the car to training everyday
- Drive it to all home games
- Park it in the chairman’s space at Swansea’s training ground
- Park it in Chico Flores’ space at the Liberty Stadium for home games
- Bring it back will a full tank
- Pay for all repairs if it breaks down
- Modify the car when handing it back
- Replace the car if it’s lost or stolen
In an age when footballers drive ridiculously expensive cars, we think it’s a brilliant idea.
