GOOD MORNING

The 9 at 9 Nine things you need to know by 9am: Anger over suggestions that Rachel Peavoy’s flat wasn’t freezing; another Gardagate tape emerges in Mayo; and is Keano heading down under?

Every morning, TheJournal.ie brings you nine things you really need to know by 9am.

1. #RACHEL PEAVOY: The family of Rachel Peavoy are angry over the coroner’s suggestion at her inquest that her flat “wasn’t freezing” at the time she died. The family’s solicitor, Teresa Gavin, said the family wanted the Minister for the Environment to investigate what had occurred “in the Ballymun regeneration programme” and what had happened at the block of flats at Shangan Road where Rachel died, the Examiner reports.

2. #DEIRDRE McCARTHY: A 39-year-old man is due to appear in Ennis District court today in connection with the violent death of Deirdre McCarthy. He was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after being discharged from Galway University Hospital, where he underwent treatment for injuries which were apparently self-inflicted, it’s reported today.

3. #RONAN KERR: A 26-year-old man is still in custody in the north in connection with the car bomb that killed PSNI officer Ronan Kerr. The Mirror reports this morning that the arrest came “after police sezied a huge weapons haul, primed and ready to kill”.

4. #CORRIB: The women who were allegedly the subject of sexually offensive remarks by gardaí who had arrested them while they were protesting at Corrib are due to make a formal complaint to the Garda Ombudsman today. They also plan to hold a press conference in Dublin this morning at which calls for a public inquiry are to be made.  But the Independent reports that if anyone’s likely to end up in court over the incident, it won’t be the gardaí.

5. #MAYO GARDAI: Another compromising recording has emerged this morning, allegedly involving gardaí in Mayo. Protester John Monaghan claims he has a tape recording in which a garda made remarks of a sexually abusive nature to Monaghan’s wife, the Irish Times reports.

6. #NEWS AGGREGATION: RTÉ is planning to offer members of the National Newspapers of Ireland – effectively Ireland’s biggest newspaper publishers – the opportunity to aggregate free and prepared clips from its news bulletins on their websites. The move comes amidst a row over the broadcaster’s commercial digital media activities, the Irish Times reports.

7. #KEANO: The Irish Daily Star reports that Roy Keane is in talks to take up a job in Australia as head of soccer club, Melbourne Victory.

8. #FINGLETON: Sinn Fein’s Pearse Doherty wants a picture of Michael Fingleton that’s hanging in the Dáil bar to be taken down, the Irish Independent reports, saying it sends out the wrong impression.

9. #DRY YOUR EYES: But if you thought Irish politicians were embarrassing, be glad you don’t have to contend with Nick Clegg. In his latest embarrassing interview – this time with New Statesman – the British deputy PM has admitted that he often cries to music because he’s so fed up with being the British nation’s object of derision – and even his sons ask why everyone hates him, the Telegraph reports. The interview follows another toe-curling encounter with Piers Morgan for GQ magazine three years ago, in which he admitted to having had “no more than 30” previous lovers.
