The Departures Lounge: your daily lunchtime transfer round-up

Find out which club is crazy enough to pay £15m for Scott Dann… and all the rest of the idle gossip this afternoon.

ANDRE VILLAS-BOAS certainly isn’t wasting any time. The newly-confirmed Chelsea manager will move to make Inter’s Samuel Eto’o his first signing.

Didier Drogba, who has claimed in the past that he’s better than Eto’o, won’t be best pleased.

The Daily Mirror, on the other hand, believes the Portugese manager has a far more extensive shopping list with Neymar, Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and the kitchen sink all figuring in Villas-Boas’ plans.

In other Chelsea-related news, Barcelona, perhaps charmed by his unusual hair style, will bid £27.5m for David Luiz. Luiz hasn’t exactly thrived since his move to Chelsea.

Borussia Dortmund are set to make every Arsenal fan’s day by bidding £12.5m for sporadically-brilliant-but-normally-useless striker Nicklas Bendtner.

Man City and their neighbours United are still locked in a battle to sign Wesley Sneijder, but both have at last given up hope of securing a deal for Alexis Sanchez to the relief of seasoned transfer rumour watchers everywhere, who no doubt by this stage have become exhausted by the very mention of the Chilean.

David De Gea, the goalkeeper attracting strong interest from Man United, has described Atletico Madrid as “a big club”, which according to Talksport, means he is likely to stay at the club. The rest of us, though, realise he’s just bluffing in case United decide to drop their interest and he’s stuck with them.

In first piece of Irish player news in far too long, Kevin Doyle looks set to stay at Wolves despite many of us hoping in vain that those Arsenal or Liverpool links might actually be true.

Speaking of classy strikers who play for lower-table clubs, Peter ‘is he really a more worthwhile investment than Kevin Doyle?’ Odemwingie might be on his way to Chelsea or Arsenal.

Finally, in the most shocking news of the day, it looks like Stoke might be genuinely willing to pay £15m (plus Ricardo Fuller) for Scott Dann. What is the world coming to?
