The Departures Lounge: your daily lunchtime transfer round-up

Find out which club is paying millions for a relatively unknown player, who André Villas-Boas has in mind to bolster his Stamford Bridge revolution and what rumours are keeping Rafael van der Vaart awake at night.

EVERY DAY, AS transfer speculation intensifies, we all hold our breath and wait for it, that one piece of earth-shattering news that a deal of epic proportions has been concluded – a deal which will change the course of football history as we know it.

And then… Gael Clichy moves to Man City, leaving us all feeling like we’ve just witnessed a much-hyped film in which nothing of any real significance happens at the end, causing us to wonder what all the fuss was about in the first place.

In other Arsenal-related news, Arsene Wenger appears to be acting sensibly for once, as he is apparently refusing to sell Samir Nasri to any of his side’s Premiership rivals, meaning Inter is the star’s most likely destination.

In addition, in a rather baffling piece of news, Arsenal are reportedly going to the trouble of arranging a meeting for Cesc Fabregas to say what we’ve all known for what seems like centuries now – he wants to go to Barcelona.

Getting away from Arsenal, but staying with recurring transfer rumours, Tottenham have again been linked with pint-sized Italian attacking maestro Giuseppe Rossi.

Meanwhile Rafael van der Vaart has said what all Spurs fans are thinking, expressing concern that Luka Modric and Gareth Bale might leave the club.

Keeping with London clubs, after being linked with the glamorous likes of Neymar and Alexis Sanchez, Chelsea have suddenly remembered what they do best – grinding out victories in a dull but effective manner. Hence, they are now being linked with the dull but effective Pepe.

And if you thought that was bad, André Villas-Boas also wants Scott Dann, and is even willing to put himself through the sheer torture of watching 10 Birmingham games on video in order to ensure Dann is up to the task.

Anyone, who has assumed by this stage that Man United would not be getting a mention for once is wrong sadly. It has been an unusually quiet day for Alex Ferguson’s side though, as they appear to be linked with absolutely no one following their busy summer so far in comparison to other clubs.

Finally, who is Dario Conca I hear no one ask? For anyone who cares, he is in fact one of the highest-paid footballers in the world, having left Fluminese to sign for Chinese Super League side Guangzhou and signing a three-and-a-half-year contract worth £6.4million a year.

I suppose with Andy Carroll moving for £30 million, it was only a matter of time before random nobodies got paid similar amounts.
