The Departures Lounge: your daily lunchtime transfer round-up

Find out what player Terry wants Chelsea to sign, how Tevez has denied claims he is motivated by money for the 451st time and what Fabregas must do to prove he is “a real man”.

DOES JOHN TERRY think he’s God?

Following his attempted coup of the England side last year, he now appears to be telling André Villas-Boas what to do, as he has told the Portuguese manager that Gary Cahill is the best man to partner him in the centre of defence.

Someone who John Terry definitely won’t be advising Chelsea to sign is Wayne Bridge. However, following Bridge’s hugely successful stints at Man City and West Ham (note: sarcasm), Liverpool have been tempted into signing the player.

Another highly-rated English central defender, Michael Dawson, is considerably peeved apparently, after Spurs only offered him a new contract worth 40,000-a-week. Dawson is now threatening to leave the club. And they say football’s not all about the money.

Unlike Dawson, Shay Given is apparently happy to take a pay cut. Just like they were a few weeks back, Aston Villa remain “on the verge” of signing the player.

Jack Wilshere has come out with some gobbledygook about it taking “a real man” to remain loyal to your club, making sly reference to a certain someone in the process. We must remember that quote when Wilshere is being courted by Real Madrid in a few years time.

Elsewhere on the Arsenal front, a groundbreaking piece of investigative journalism has uncovered the revelation that Pep Guardiola is “optimistic” about signing Cesc Fabregas.

Another Departures Lounge veteran, Carlos Tevez, faces a choice between Real Madrid and Corinthians. Corinthians are closer to home like Tevez always wanted, but Real Madrid are, well, a much better team, and are probably willing to offer Tevez far more cash.

But then again, Tevez doesn’t care about money, apparently. His transfer request wasn’t about money, just like his move to Man City wasn’t about money in the first place.

Finally, in the day’s non-transfer-related news, the Independent have compiled a list of the distances Premier League teams are willing to travel to play, with Chelsea having to trek 19,061 miles for their tour of Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong.

Something tells me John Terry will be advising Chelsea to rest him for that trip.
