The Departures Lounge: your daily lunchtime transfer round-up

It’s that time of the day again. Here’s all of the unsubstantiated rumour that’s fit to print…

DARRON GIBSON COULD be on the way out of Old Trafford within the next few weeks. The Republic of Ireland international has struggled to break into the Manchester United midfield this season and the Daily Mail have rehashed their story about David Moyes wanting to whisk Gibbo away to the sunnier climes of Goodison Park. I wonder if Signor Trapattoni will have anything to say about this one?

Of course, if Gibson does move on, it would give a new lease of life to all those rumours about United’s pursuit of Santos starlet Ganso. The 22-year-old Brazilian has been linked with almost as many clubs as team-mate Neymar, but he is under contract until 2015 so will need to start seriously agitating for a move if he wants out.

Another Brazilian who could be on the move to the Premier League is 19-year-old Lucas Moura. ESPN carry reports from Brazil that Chelsea are ready to splash out €35m to bolster their attacking options. Liverpool and Inter Milan are also interested, according to the player’s agent.

If those reports are true,  Andre Villas-Boas certainly has his hands full at the moment. AVB’s attempts to bring Bolton defender Gary Cahill to Chelsea haven’t budged in the last 24 hours as both parties struggle to agree personal terms. The Daily Express reports that Cahill has requested a whopping £120,000 per week — £90,000 more than he currently earns at the Reebok and, more importantly, a full £50,000 more than Chelsea are willing to offer him.

Once the Cahill deal is resolved, it could pave the way for Alex’s exit. The 29-year-old Brazilian is out of contract in the summer and the Daily Mail reckons that QPR would be willing to snap him up for £2m.

Elsewhere, free-talking French agent Marc Formeaux has said that Arsenal target Yann M’Vila will be allowed to leave Rennes if somebody can match his £20m price tag while another man on Arsene Wenger’s radar, playmaker Mario Goetze, has committed to at least one more year with Borussia Dortmund according to sporting director Michael Zorc.

Manchester City are looking less and less likely to pick up Daniele di Rossi from Roma, with the midfielder close to agreeing terms on a new €5m per year deal to remain in the Eternal City.

Another Italian who could be on the move is World Cup winner Vincenzo Iaquinta. The 32-year-old has reportedly been offered on loan to Newcastle United.

Finally, if someone tells you that Darren Bent has signed for Liverpool and that moustachioed know-it-all Mark Lawrenson confirmed the deal on BBC Radio Five Live, take it with a pinch of salt. You know what Twitter is like for rumours…
