‘Liverpool Sign Bent’, plus other rumours clarified in today’s fix of football gossip.

WHILE UNITED MAY have rubbished recent claims that they are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, they could still get rid of promising youngster Paul Pogba who is attracting both Milan clubs.

With recent results not going their way and the Glazers seemingly unwilling to spend big, United will presumably need to implement a sell-to-buy policy. However, one of their new names will not be Gary Cahill apparently, with the defender set to move to Chelsea instead. Perhaps that news will come as a relief more than anything to United fans, given that Cahill happens to be part of the joint worst defence in the league.

As Andy Carroll’s Liverpool career continues to falter, rumours of an an on-again-off-again deal involving Liverpool and Darren Bent persist. However, TheScore.ie can confirm that those ‘Liverpool Sign Bent’ rumours are indeed true (see article image).

Another player who Liverpool appear interested in is Birmingham’s prodigious 17-year-old winger Nathan Redmond – however, they will have to compete with Man City for his services.

Tottenham are also in need of a winger seemingly, as they’ve been linked with both Juventus’ Milos Krasnic (also of interest to Chelsea) and Blackburn’s Junior Hoilett. Some reports suggest they’ll launch a double bid in the region of £12m for Hoilett and Christopher Samba.

Meanwhile, Man City will, of course, spend millions as usual, with Wesley Sneijder and Thiago Silva being among the players linked with the club, though reports suggest Daniele De Rossi will reject the club’s advances.

Wigan will try to convince football fans that Mame Biram Diouf isn’t entirely hopeless, as they look set to move for the out-of-favour striker.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle will look to soften the blow of losing Gary Cahill by signing American centre-back Tim Ream.

And finally, England’s one-cap wonder, Jay Bothroyd, could be set for a move to Celtic.
