THINGS WE LEARNED

#NAMA: A former employee of the National Asset Management Agency has confirmed that an ex-employee purchased a property from one of its debtors. The agency has brought court proceedings against the employee, named as Enda Farrell, alleging that data was taken without authorisation.

#LIBYA: The US ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, has been killed in an attack on the US consulate in the country’s second city Benghazi. Three other officials were also killed in the attack which was carried out by an armed mob who stormed the embassy last night.

#HILLSBOROUGH: British prime minister David Cameron has apologised to the families of the 96 people who died in the Hillsborough stadium disaster following the publication of a damning report into the disaster which indicated that dozens of people could have survived.

#ESM: The cost of borrowing for Ireland has fallen after a German court ruled that the eurozone’s €500 billion bailout fund is in line with the country’s constitution alleviating fears that the European Stability Mechanism could be killed-off before it even comes into effect.

#EDUCATION: Irish pupils are taught twice as much religion as those in other countries in the OECD according to a worldwide study. The report says that Irish pupils spend 12 per cent of their time learning maths.
