1. #CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Basle struck late on to beat Bayern Munich in Switzerland last night while Marseille too earned a late winner against Inter Milan.

2. #EUROPA LEAGUE Manchester City enjoyed a 4-0 rout of Porto at Eastlands to make sure they cruise into the next stage of the competition. Roberto Mancini confirmed afterwards that he will speak to Carlos Tevez today and accept the wayward striker back into his title-chasing squad.

Tonight, Manchester United face Ajax at Old Trafford but they will do so without Wayne Rooney, who is ill.

3. #MATCH PLAY Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood now have a chance to replace world No 1 Luke Donald after they progressed in Arizona while Donald was dumped out. Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell are also out.

4. #MUNSTER Tony McGahan will indeed leave Munster at the end of the season, the province confirmed yesterday. And on a day when Anthony Foley was coy on his interest in the big job, here’s the rest of the runners and riders.

5. #SPL Celtic are now 20 points clear of Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premier League after they beat Dunfermline 2-0 at home last night.

6. #SIX NATIONS Ireland continue their preparations for Saturday’s lunchtime showdown with Italy today. Yesterday, the IRFU told us that only a few hundred Irish fan have availed of the offer to return to Paris for the re-scheduled game against Paris in March.

7. #YOUTUBE I’m told it’s Thursday, so it must be time for our weekly sports viral round-up. I know. Lucky you.
