The Morning Score: Wednesday

United leave the door open, Ronnie’s through to round two at the Crucible, and all-round legend Brian Wilson gives us a singing lesson.

1. PREMIER LEAGUE Have Manchester United left the Premier League door ever so slightly ajar for Arsenal?

United missed the chance to open up a nine-point gap at the top of the table when they drew 0-0 against Newcastle last night. Arsenal travel to play Spurs later on this evening knowing that nothing less than a win will do.

2. #HOWZAT? Cricket Ireland were cautiously optimisitc as they welcomed the ICC decision to reopen discussions on the format of the 2015 Cricket World Cup.

Chief executive Warren Deutrom admitted “there’s still a long way to go” before the issue is resolved.

The global governing body were seen to cave in the face of the reaction to their controversial decision to exclude Associate countries.

3. #SNOOKER Ronnie O’Sullivan made short work of Dominic Dale as he concluded their first-round Crucible clash yesterday.

The Rocket will now face Shaun Murphy after his 10-2 demolition of the qualifier.

4. #RORY If Rory McIlroy wins the Open this year, it’ll raise the roof at Sandwich, according to the Royal and Ancient Club chief executive.

Peter Dawson said: ”I think it would be staggeringly popular. He’s already a popular figure, he’s young, everyone wants him to do well and I think the roof would come off the stands if he won the Open.

5. PREMIER LEAGUE Yesterday, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp urged the league’s bosses to move forward Manchester City and Stoke’s clash.

The game was initially set for 14 May but after the sides booked their places in the FA Cup final that day, it has been moved to 17 May.

A victory or draw for Stoke win would help Spurs in their battle with Manchester City to qualify for the Champions League through their top-flight position.

But the Potters will qualify for Europe as FA Cup runners-up if Manchester City finish in the top four.

6. #WILSON We may have mentioned before that we’re big fans of San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson. He’s a little bit crazy to say the least.

If we don’t get much work done today, it’s because we’re watching this latest YouTube clip. Cheers to the lads over at Balls.ie for the heads-up.
