The Open: Rory McIlroy reveals confidence crisis

“I’m frustrated but that’s the way it is,” McIlroy said after another disappointing day at the office for the Holywood man.

RORY MCILROY CONCEDES he is losing trust in his swing after another poor round at the Open Championship today.

McIlroy shot a three-over 73 in the third round, leaving him at five over for the tournament with just one round remaining. The Irishman has struggled with consistency at Royal Lytham and St Annes.

“Just consistency, lack of consistency with my swing and from there it’s tough,” McIlroy said.  ”Whenever you’re not confident in the shots that you’re trying to hit, then it is tough to sort of trust (your swing).”

After shooting a three-under 67 in Thursday’s opening round, McIlroy has posted scores of 75 and 73, leaving him well off the pace at the Open Championship. The 23-year-old has only won one tournament for the year and admitted he is struggling with his form.

“I’m frustrated but that’s the way it is,” McIlroy said.  ”That’s golf and you just have to get on with it and keep trying and keep practising and stay patient until it turns around.”
