FORMER FRANCE INTERNATIONAL Thierry Henry has announced his retirement from professional football.
Henry took the decision to hang up his boots at 37 after opting against signing a new contract with New York Red Bulls earlier this month.
The former Arsenal striker will now become the face of Sky television joining their high-profile punditry team of Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, etc in a deal reportedly worth up to £25 million.
Henry told Sky Sports:
“I’ve been fortunate enough to have had an amazing playing career with many incredible memories and now I can’t wait for the next chapter to begin with Sky Sports.
“I played for some of the best teams in football and now I’m joining what I think is the best team in television. I’m looking forward to joining the guys and helping to provide Sky Sports viewers with the best possible analysis. I can’t wait.”
Henry – who is a World Cup, European Championship and Champions League winner – won the European Golden Boot five times and is the all-time leading goalscorer in Arsenal and France history.
He also once helped his team to the World Cup at the expense of Ireland.
