REIGNING ALL-IRELAND champions Tipperary will face Clare at the quarter-final stage of this year’s hurling championship, while other quarter-final will be a battle between south east neighbours, Wexford and Waterford.
The draw took place this morning for the hurling clashes, while the Round 3B of the football qualifiers will see Tipperary host Armagh while Carlow will entertain Monaghan.
The hurling quarter-final ties will take place on the weekend of 22-23 July.
Tipperary flattened Dublin on Saturday night and will now meet a Clare team that lost out in yesterday’s Munster final against Cork.
It will be the first championship meeting between the counties since the 2011 Munster semi-final which Tipperary won by 4-19 to 1-19.
Waterford will be hoping to build on Saturday’s long-awaited triumph over Kilkenny while Wexford were defeated recently in the Leinster decider by Galway.
It will be a repeat of last year’s quarter-final tie where Waterford triumphed by 0-21 to 0-11 in Thurles.
In football, the Round 3B games will take place next weekend with Tipperary and Armagh facing off again after they met earlier this year when a last-gasp Michael Quinlivan goal secured Division 3 league promotion for Tipperary at the Athletic Grounds.
Carlow’s reward for defeating Leitrim on Saturday is a home tie against Monaghan, who blitzed Wexford at the weekend.
The draws in full are:
All-Ireland senior hurling quarter-finals
Clare v Tipperary
Wexford v Waterford
All-Ireland football qualifiers Round 3B
Tipperary v Armagh
Carlow v Monaghan
