LIMERICK BOSS TJ Ryan has taken some of the blame for their Munster final loss as he believes that he may have put the players through a tough training regime before that decider against Cork.
Ryan absorbed the lessons of that game and his preparation for yesterday’s All-Ireland quarter-final was perfect as his Limerick team crushed Wexford by 24 points.
“We had six weeks to prepare for a Munster final and I might have pushed the lads a bit too hard the week before. Looking back, did we do too much on the week of the match? I was happy coming in to today.
“This was a good day for Limerick and we showed a bit of consistency. We are back in an All-Ireland semi-final again and it is a good position to be in. I had hoped that the game we had in the Munster final would bring us on. That match hardened us and I hoped to have a better performance.
“A lot of the guys played well. We got scores at the right time. We probably killed the game off before half time with the couple of goals. You have to be pleased with that. It is onwards and upwards for us.”
Ryan had sympathy for opponents Wexford who have had to endured a hectic spell of activity throughout the month of July.
I think playing four weeks on the trot at this level isn’t right. It isn’t fair. It was going to catch up with them at some stage. To play four hard championship games with two extra times, Jaysus, you would want to be a machine.
“Our fellas started well, we got on top and then we got the scores. And adrenaline would have kept them going if they were in front but the boys are professional and they drove on.”
