Ton-dulkar: Sachin finally lands historic 100th international century

It’s okay, India, you can open your eyes again. He’s done it.

AFTER 370 DAYS, Sachin Tendulkar finally notched up his elusive 100th international century in the Asia Cup clash with Bangladesh this morning, becoming the first-ever batsman to reach the milestone.

The Indian batsman’s last ton came in March last year when he struck 111 against South Africa in the World Cup.

Since then, he has come close on several occasions but finally broke through as he notched the milestone, his first against Bangladesh, in 138 balls in their one-day clash in Mirpur.

Tendulkar looked like he would achieve the feat in the World Cup semi-final against Pakistan last year but fell for 85.

On India’s disastrous tour to England, he made 56 and 40 in the second and third Tests. But it was only in his final innings on the tour that he reached the 90s — but was dismissed on 91.

He again fell agonisingly close when the West Indies toured India in November, out for 94 in the final Test of the series.

Tendulkar decided to sit out the ODI series against the tourists, which meant an entire series against Australia with the added pressure of the 100.

Other than a 73 and an 80 in the first two Tests, Tendulkar, like the rest of the squad, had a forgettable outing down under. The ODIs were no different with his highest knock at just 48 in seven innings.

And after missing out in the opening match of the Asia Cup against Sri Lanka with just six, he made the most of batting-friendly conditions in the second match to reach the historic milestone.
