Tony Kelly wins Hurler and Young Hurler of the Year awards

The Clare half-forward had an evening to remember.

“I’D GIVE THE three of them back if it meant winning another All-Ireland next year.”

Those were the words of Tony Kelly after the Clare half-forward became the first player to win both the Young Hurler and Hurler of the Year awards in the same season at the GAA/GPA All Star Awards banquet Friday evening.

Speaking to RTE, the Ballyea clubman said:

“I didn’t think I’d collect three awards tonight with the other lads that were up for it.

“It’s been a great year for Clare in general and look, if I was told I’d win another All-Ireland next year I’d give the three of them back.”

The Player of the Year awards are voted on by GPA members and Kelly beat his own team-mate Podge Collins to both titles.

Fellow Clareman David McInerney and Cork goalie Anthony Nash were also in the running for the Young Hurler and Hurler of the Year awards respectively.
