Toure warns team-mate Sakho of 'difficult period' to come over alleged anti-doping violation

The 26-year-old Liverpool defender is being investigated by Uefa.

LIVERPOOL DEFENDER KOLO Toure has offered his support to team-mate Mamadou Sakho after news emerged that the latter is being investigated by Uefa over an alleged anti-doping violation.

News of the 26-year-old’s possible violation for the use of a ‘fat-burning’ supplement broke in advance of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle on Saturday and while the Frenchman has not been suspended, his club opted to omit him from their squad for the game.

Toure, who was banned for six months for testing positive for endroflumethiazide, a weight-loss drug, in February 2011, said the incident brought back memories of his own violation.

“I don’t want to remember that because it has been tough for me. I don’t even want to talk about that because it is very hard.

Right now I haven’t spoken with Mama, to be honest. I’ve been in there and it has been really difficult, definitely. This is private but he knows what I think about him.”

Toure was the player to benefit from Sakho’s absence this weekend and is likely to feature in the starting XI when they take on Villarreal in Spain on Thursday.
