Payet linked with Man United, Pogba saga nearly done, and all today's transfer gossip

Plus, PSG could be about to steal one of Arsenal’s targets and we look back at the deal that smashed the world transfer record in 1996.

HERE ARE THE good, the bad, and the unlikely football moves being talked about today.

Finally, it’s happening.

Paul Pogba looks set to undergo a medical in Los Angeles today ahead of his long-awaited move to Manchester United. Italian newspaper La Stampa has reported that his agent Mino Raiola has agreed to lower his agent fee demands although the 23-year old’s price tag is still believed to well in excess of €100 million.

Meanwhile, across the city at the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola has confirmed the club’s interest in John Stones. The Englishman joined Everton for €3.5 million in 2012 but Guardiola may have to pay as much as €60 million if he wants to acquire the 22-year old’s services, according to the BBC.

While Pogba looks set to be on his way to Old Trafford, a fellow countryman may not be far behind. French sharpshooter Dimitri Payet could be José Mourinho’s next big signing of the summer, suggests The Mirror.

While Payet may be taking the next ride out of West Ham, André Ayew could be coming in, according to The Sun. It is thought that the Hammers are willing to offer as much as £75,000 a week to Ayew in order to bolster the side’s attack.

Another man who could be on his way out the door at Old Trafford is Bastian Schweinsteiger. The 31-year old, who has just announced that he is retiring from international football, could be leaving the club as plans are being made to accommodate Pogba. The German is just one of a number of players expected to be leaving the club this summer in order to make room for the Frenchman, reports The Sun.

PSG look set steal French attacker Alexandre Lacazette from Arsenal’s grasp as they attempt to fill the void Zlatan Ibrahmovic left in the squad. L’Équipe report that the French side may offer anything up to as much as €47 million for the Lyon player.

But it’s not all gloom for Arsene Wenger as he may be able to bring German centre-back Shkodran Mustafi to London for €30 million plus add-ons despite the Valencia player having a release clause of nearly €50 million, according to Sky Sports.

Retro Deal of the Day

Back in 1996, Alan Shearer became the world’s most expensive player as he returned home to Tyneside for £15 million.

Both Manchester United and Newcastle United were looking to sign the prominent English striker but Blackburn Rovers were keen on not letting him join the former after battling for the 1995 Premier League title with them.

Shearer was in his prime as he had just finished top scorer at Euro 96 with England after finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer for the second season in a row. He also came third in that year’s vote for Fifa World Player of the Year.

The striker’s prowess would continue in the north east as he scored 206 goals for Newcastle in 405 games over 10 seasons.

His record of 260 Premier League goals has never been matched or come close to and he now works as a pundit for BBC’s Match of the Day.
