Neck injury rules Munster bound Bleyendaal out until 2015

The outhalf needs surgery to correct a prolapsed disc in his neck.

IT HAS BEEN a bad couple of hours for the Irish provinces regarding injuries. First, there was the news that Iain Henderson will likely miss the autumn tests following a hip injury, and now there are reports coming out of New Zealand that Munster’s incoming outhalf Tyler Bleyendaal needs surgery on his neck and will be out until 2015.

”I am working with Munster to plan the rehab process and I’m looking forward to contributing to their campaign once I have fully recovered,” Bleyendaal said in a statement.

The outhalf had been involved in Caterbury’s ITM Cup campaign but won’t take any further part in the tournament now. The news is a big blow to Munster, who had hoped the New Zealander could add some extra creativity to their backline early in the season.
