Tyrone claim All-Ireland minor quarter-final extra-time win over Kerry

The sides met in Croke Park this afternoon.

Tyrone 0-17
Kerry 1-12

IT TOOK TYRONE extra-time before they eventually booked their place in the All-Ireland minor football semi-final with a two-point this afternoon over Kerry in Croke Park.

Tyrone needed a last-gasp point by Stephen McGrath in normal time to tie the teams at 1-9 to 0-12 in this quarter-final tie.

The Red Hands had finished normal time with 13 men after Christopher Morris and Ruairi McGlone were both sent-off for second bookable offences in the second-half of the game.

They kicked on in extra-time then to triumph despite missing a penalty when Lee Brennan’s shot was saved by Kerry net minder Shane Ryan.

Tyrone had lead by 0-15 to 1-11 at the midway mark of normal time and then Kerry’s star forward Jack Savage, who hit 1-8 during the game, tied the teams with a a pointed free.

But Philip Donnelly and Conor McKenna landed the crucial points to seal Tyrone’s passage into the last four.

Tyrone shipped an early goal in the first-half to Savage yet recovered to lead by 0-9 to 1-4 at the interval.

However Kerry produced a really strong second-half display with Savage, Conor Keane and Killian Spillane grabbing scores that looked set to propel them to victory before Tyrone’s late fightback.
