Trimble and Pienaar combine to clinch home semi-final for Ulster

Cardiff Blues looked to spoil the party at Ravenhill but Mark Anscombe’s men were having none of it.

ULSTER SECURED A home Pro12 semi-final thanks to a four-try performance and masterful displays from Ruan Pienaar and Andrew Trimble.

Trailing 13-10 at the break, the home side roared into life in the second-half. A couple of superbly taken tries from Trimble, added to Pienaar’s snipe try in the first-half, put them in front and they never looked back.

The bonus point win, and a Ravenhill semi-final against Scarlets was secured in the final minutes as Robbie Diack powered over for a score in his 100th game for the province. The game finished 37-13 on a night when hooker Rory Best, gutted to miss out on Lions selection, was given a warm reception from the home fans.

With Leinster in the other semi-final, against Glasgow, the Irish provinces are on a collision course for a 25 May Final at the RDS.
