Varela makes his first start: The United XI for tonight's make-or-break Champions League game

LVG makes two changes from Saturday’s draw against West Ham.

LOUIS VAN GAAL has handed Uruguyan defender Guillermo Varela his first Manchester United start in tonight’s decisive Champions League clash.

United need a win against Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena to guarantee their progress to the last 16, though they could qualify regardless if other results go their way.

Van Gaal makes two changes with Varela trusted at right-full following his debut in Saturday’s draw against West Ham.

Paddy McNair drops to the bench, while the other change sees Memphis Depay replace Morgan Schneiderlin in the United attack.

Wolfsburg: Benaglio, Trasch, Naldo, Dante, Rodriguez, Arnold, Guilavogui, Vieirinha, Kruse, Draxler, Schurrle.

Substitutes: Casteels, Bendtner, Schafer, Klose, Caligiuri, Dost, Jung.

Man United: De Gea, Varela, Smalling (c), Blind, Darmian, Fellaini, Schweinsteiger, Lingard, Mata, Memphis, Martial.

Substitutes: Romero, Borthwick-Jackson, McNair, Carrick, Pereira, Young, Powell.

Is a mini Arsenal reunion on the cards for one of the best ever Premier League full-backs?
