THE IRB HAS announced that an unidentified player failed a drugs test at the Rugby World Cup.
While the organisation refused to name the player in question, they confirmed that he played for a side that failed to progress past the group stages of the tournament.
The player has been provisionally suspended and speaking to reporters, IRB anti-doping manager Tim Ricketts said:
“The player and his union (who exited the tournament after the pool phase) have been informed of the finding.“Due to confidentiality provisions no further information can be released until the case is heard and a decision made.”
Japan’s Ryohei Yamanaka was banned for two years recently, after he tested positive for methyltestosterone – a drug the player claimed he used to assist the growth of his moustache.
