Vern Cotter gets to work in Scotland by naming 43-man double squad

The former Clermont boss has called up six uncapped players including Glasgow out-half Finn Russell.

VERN COTTER HAS begun his new life as the head coach of Scotland by naming a 43-man double squad for a hectic Test schedule next month.

The former Clermont boss has included six uncapped players in his selection; Glasgow Warriors’ Gordon Reid, Alex Allan, Kevin Bryce and Finn Russell, London Irish flanker Blair Cowan, and Edinburgh scrum-half Grayson Hart.

The first of the Scotland squads will take on the US in Houston on the 7th of June and Canada in Toronto on the 14th of June, while the second group will travel to face Argentina on the 20th and South Africa on the 28th.

Gordon Reid, Pat MacArthur, Kevin Bryce, Moray Low, Geoff Cross, Grant Gilchrist, Alex Dunbar, Sean Maitland and Stuart Hogg are the nine players who will undertake the entire four-Test tour, but the other 36 will only be involved for two games each.

Scotland are currently ranked 10th in the world by the IRB, and won just once in the 2014 Six Nations.

“I’m very much looking forward to starting work with the Scotland players as we begin our 16-match countdown to the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England,” said Cotter.
